---Hammer-In / Fire-In ---
Salem, NY — ‘HAMMER-IN / FIRE-IN’ – Come join us for a weekend festival of earth, iron and fire, August 7th and 8th at Salem Art Works. Inspired by the wonder of molten metal and the primal elements, Salem Art Works hosts a celebration of iron casting and forging with fire and heat.
SAW will host a Hammer-In in conjunction with the Group Iron Residency cast iron pour the same weekend. The festival is open to all blacksmiths, so bring your wares. For those wishing to sell their work there is a vending fee. Open from 11 am onwards, admission is free.
·
On Sunday August 8th there will be a public cast iron pour. Come be a part of modern day alchemy as artists transform everyday scrap iron into beautiful works of art. The public is invited to witness this spectacle from the sidelines free of charge, or join in the magic by creating your very own piece of cast-iron art. For a small fee, scratch blocks will be provided for those who wish to design a small relief carving and watch it being poured.
Additionally the GLO glass studio will be open for demonstration as well as the new anagama wood fired ceramic kiln. Come and share your skills and learn some new ones as we celebrate Earth, Iron and Fire at the Salem Art Works.
Salem Art Works is a 501(c) 3 art colony and sculpture park. Open from June to October, SAW hosts a number of events such as the Salem Art Works Music Festival on July 31st, and workshops in ceramics, glass blowing, blacksmithing, metal sculpture, jewelry, drawing and painting. The public is welcome to tour the Sculpture Park and grounds. Hours are 10am – dusk, open daily (closed Mondays).
