The First on the Quarter Meet at Jonathan Nedbor's Shop Winter 2010
New NBA Quarterly Meet
On February 20th, the NBA hosted a Mid-Winter gathering. This is a new
event and was held at Canal Forge, Jonathan Nedbor's shop in High
Falls, NY. The plan was for a couple of quick demos and then to allow
all those who wanted, time to work at the fire and anvil with
instruction. Mark Emig showed how to forge a bending fork with a
technique he learned from Mark Aspery. Jonathan forged a pair of tongs
with forge welded reins. Two local farriers set up outside the shop
with a portable rig and demoed making shoes. Only two people stepped
up to work at the forge after the demos. They were successful in
making their first pair of tongs. In the future we would like to see
more forging by members of the group.
The day was a success, we had good weather and 28 people filling the
shop. It was nice to see the familiar faces as well as a good number
of new people. We even had one person from as far away as Maryland
show up with a bushel of fresh oysters. And from the looks of it
everyone appreciated the bbq of burgers and dogs.
All things considered, it was a great day for all involved. Watch for
announcements for another Quarterly Meet sometime over the Summer.
These will give us a chance to meet and focus on specific projects
between our twice yearly meets at Ashokan.
Additionally we had a lottery and auction that raised $175 for Doctors
Without Borders efforts in Haiti. Thanks to all who donated items and
contributed to the lottery/auction's success.
Thanks again to all who attended. See you at Ashokan.
